About Us
The idea of Steele House Coffee was birthed back in March of 2015. In 2005, I felt the desire to open up a clothing store where people could hang out and feel welcomed. This idea was then set aside for over 10 years. During that time, I went to school for Small Business Management, got married, and had a child. Life went on. Then, after celebrating 5 years of marriage on our drive back from Reno, my husband and I started talking in the car and presented the idea of starting a business. He asked what it was I wanted to do, and I reminded him of the clothing store. He responded with, “Honestly, what it sounds like you want, is a coffee shop.” I sat there for a moment and thought maybe? I didn’t even drink coffee at that time, so it was such a foreign subject. As we talked for the next two hours, the idea became a solid construct.
Humble Beginnings
After the idea was birthed, then came the fun part! I had never opened a business or worked in a cafe. From that point, we started our research and rallied our friends and family with the excitement of this new venture. We participated in some local classes from the Chamber of Commerce and set the business plan in motion. During this planning stage, we became pregnant with our son, Luke. As the pregnancy progressed, so did the idea of Steele House Coffee now becoming a reality.
Next, we put together our team of soon-to-be baristas, each with their own knowledge to help us achieve our goals. Through my husband, we found Stephen, a local roaster located in Roseville. He had been roasting for about two years and was running his own company, Mast Coffee. Stephen introduced us to his business partner, Michael. With their guidance and knowledge, we started our training.
There were many ups and downs during this whole process. We initially brought the plans to the city in January, and after multiple revisions, we received the go-ahead in June of 2017, one month after our son turned 1. We had already found our building a year earlier and spent months researching and ordering all the equipment, furniture, and supplies we needed.
After almost 3 years and many construction delays, Steele House Coffee was ready to open. On September 29th, Friday morning at 7 AM, we opened our doors…and have never looked back.
